It takes very little special handling to enjoy a good bowl of ice cream at home. Still, there are some things you can do to keep Cedar Crest at its peak flavor and consistency longer.
Take it right home. Make ice cream the last item you purchase in a grocery store visit, and buy groceries as the last stop on your shopping trip. This gets Cedar Crest into your home freezer faster, before it thaws. Thawing and re-freezing ice cream allows the microscopically tiny ice crystals in ice cream to refreeze as big crystals, making the ice cream grainy and harder to scoop.
Scoop it right out. Remove ice cream from your freezer just before serving. If you like your ice cream a bit soft (as many of our customers do) allow it to thaw in the bowl on the counter. In this way, sundae toppings will easily stay on top of each scoop.
Refrigerate religiously. True ice cream addicts will want to know that the ideal freezer for ice cream is a chest model with an open top and no defrost cycle. This type of equipment keeps the ice cream at a constant temperature, without thawing and refreezing. Regardless of your freezer, make sure your temperature is set at -5° f.--the perfect temperature for ice cream storage.
